A customer went berserk after spotting a bilingual menu at a Mexican restaurant in Southern California.
Security cameras captured the man as he ranted at employees and raged against other customers as he threatened to call immigration authorities, reported WPTV-TV.
“It’s says it in Mexican, we’re not in Mexico,” the man can be heard saying in the video. “We’re in America, not Spanish.”
The owner of Palapas Tacos in Anaheim said the man became enraged because the menu showed one special was available only on Friday — identified in Spanish, as Viernes — although other signs in the restaurant spelled out the English word.
“I’m an American!” the man bellowed. “I don’t do Spanish.”
Another customer urged him to go elsewhere for a hamburger or hot dog, and he threatened to call U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on the restaurant’s owner.
“Because you’re not legal!” the man says.
“This is over a taco,” said owner Juan Del Rio.
Del Rio said the cashier was visibly shaken by the incident, and he said the customer seemed like a miserable man.
“I honestly don’t know if he is racist, he hates Mexicans or hates his life,” Del Rio said.
A cook who was on the receiving end of the man’s rant said he was shy about speaking English on camera, but he tried to defend his work in Spanish.
“One works honorably,” said cook Ruben Velasquez. “We don’t take the bread out of anyone’s mouths.”
